The Harris Tweed Ride 2012
The Harris Tweed Ride is an annual event in Glasgow and is said to be a celebration of Harris Tweed, cycling, style, food, drink and music. I became involved in the event through my girlfriend Dora Hetherington who is quiet simply obsessed with the fabric and its heritage. As a woven textile designer herself she has even had the opportunity to work on the up and coming range of Harris Tweed fabrics. Myself I saw it as an opportunity for some fun, Scottish culture and of course any excuse to ride my bike.
This year was a sell out event with 150 riders, even the sun came out to join us. We rode from bar, to restaurant, to venue and at each collected our inclusive food, drink or… oyster. I was impressed with the chosen venues, the quality of goodies provided and most importantly the atmosphere amongst to participants. Now to quote Harris Tweed’s Blog
It’s heartening to see so many different people, of all ages and backgrounds embracing the event and falling in love with Harris Tweed. As the photos prove, the event was full of style, fun and good people proving once again that there’s more than plenty of life in this most ancient and modern of artisan cloths over a century on!
